Rates, Policies, and FAQ’s

~ When do I pay for lessons?

Monthly payment is due on the first lesson of each month.

~ What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made 24 hrs in advance by text or phone call.

We kindly ask that cancellations be kept to a minimum as to not lose “lesson credit privileges”. If you cancel a lesson, we will try to reschedule your lesson (depending on our availability) or we may offer lesson credit for the following month.

*However, please note that “lesson credit” privileges will be forfeited after numerous/frequent cancellations or if you miss a scheduled lesson without notifying us 24hrs in advance.

~ Do you have any other policies?

*On time drop offs and pick ups, please*

Please be courteous and respectful of everyone’s time, if you arrive early, kindly wait in your car until your assigned lesson time comes around and plan accordingly for on-time pick ups at the end of a lesson as to not interrupt the scheduled events before or after you.

If you arrive late to your lesson, the lesson will still conclude at its scheduled time. This allows all students to receive all of their instruction time.

~ What is your teaching schedule like?

Our schedule is quite flexible and we are able to accommodate most requests during weekdays (mornings, afternoons, early evenings), and also on saturdays. Please note that we do not teach on Sunday.

~ Do you help students with their orchestra music?

Absolutely! All of our students show significant improvement and success in their orchestra placement auditions at their school or other Charlotte area youth orchestras after they begin to study with us. We always make sure that our students are fully prepared for auditions or any upcoming performances that they may need help with.

~ Should parents attend lessons?

Parents are welcome to attend lessons however this is not a requirement. We recommend that no more than one person be present in a lesson so the student is able to concentrate without distractions.

~ Do you have student recitals or other performance opportunities?

Yes we host masterclasses and we offer 2 formal recitals each school year.

Masterclasses: Since our students are the product of two separate violin studios combined, they have the unique opportunity to learn from each other and perform in front of their peers. It is a fun and effective way in which students learn important performance skills at the same time that they take part in each other’s progress.

Formal recitals: open to family members and friends. It is usually scheduled for Jan/Feb and May/June, and it is held at a place of worship or at someone’s home. Let us know if you would like to host our next recital!

~ What kind of methods do you use? Suzuki or traditional?

Our instruction is based on the methods and philosophies of pedagogues such as Zweig, Rolland, and Suzuki, while also using our individual training and professional experience to add traditional methods to our teaching.

We make use of the Suzuki books and CD’s and complement our teaching with traditional exercises, note reading, scales, and “show of” pieces to supplement each individual’s way of learning.

Sakira is a Suzuki certified teacher and she is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

~ Do you know the audition requirements for the JYO, CSYO?

For more information visit or call/email Carlos and Sakira.

~ Do you have any pets? (Warning for those with allergies*)

*Yes. We have three rescue cats. They are indoor pets and they enjoy coming to say hi to our students. They are extremely lazy (!) and for the most part they like to curl up in a corner somewhere in our house and sleep through the lessons in our violin case.

~ How long should my lesson be?

The length of the lesson varies per student and it depends on the age, experience level, goals, and the kind of repertoire the student is currently working on. We will discuss with you which lesson length we recommend when we meet with you for the first time. Some students choose to do 2 lessons per-week.

~ Where do you teach?

We teach at our home studio in southeast Charlotte, NC. We are located in the Cotswold neighborhood near the intersection of Wendover Road and Randolph Road.

~ Do you do house calls?

Only in very rare occasions due to extreme scheduling conflicts, during important orchestral or college audition season. Fees for this service are higher and depend on the roundtrip travel time from our home to yours.
